Greening Care from Soil to Soul

Enjoy this short video, showcasing my experiential learning workshop at our Holistic Pathways of Care Retreat in Carmel Valley, CA.

Meaningful Engagement

Personalized In-Home Sessions are extraordinarily beneficial for individuals living with dementia who reside at home or in residential care communities.

Meaningful Moments Outdoors, Engaging with Nature, Song, Movement, and the Creative Arts, offer opportunities for connection and shared joy.

Research shows that these activities can enhance sleep quality, improve nutrition, reduce anxiety and depression, and alleviate feelings of loneliness. Sessions incorporate green care approaches that increase vitality, promote calm, routine, and structure, provide opportunities to develop skills and competence, increase physical activity, and generate participant leadership (nurturing self-esteem and value).

Benefits of Meaningful Engagement Include:

*Being listened to as an equal

*A sense of purpose and routine

*Being offered an appropriate outlet for skills and experiences

*An increase in self-esteem and sense of accomplishment

*Being able to address issues and offer support related to living with dementia.

In-Home Session:
"I was lucky enough to find Monica Eastway to work with my cousin June.  Monica’s work with June using music  to support her healing her memory has been nothing short of miraculous.  My cousin’s memory is getting better and she is happier then I have seen her in a long time.  Monica specializes in music healing for Alzheimer patients and June is doing so well that she is now playing the piano again.  A skill she had previously in her life returned with engaged music to support the healing of her memory.  It is truly amazing to watch her progress. Monica has a gift that I highly recommend."

What is an End-of-Life Doula?

An end-of-life doula, also known as a death doula, is a trained professional who provides emotional, spiritual, and practical support to individuals and their families during the dying process.

End-of-life doulas aim to help individuals have a peaceful, comfortable, and dignified death that aligns with their personal values and beliefs.

The services provided by an end-of-life doula may include creating a personalized care plan, facilitating communication between the individual, their loved ones, and healthcare providers, providing companionship and emotional support, and helping with tasks such as funeral planning and legacy work.

End-of-life doulas do not provide medical care, but they work in collaboration with medical professionals to ensure that the individual's physical and emotional needs are being met.

The role of an end-of-life doula is to support the individual and their family during a difficult and often confusing time, helping to create a meaningful and peaceful end-of-life experience.
